Familiar Trees

Familiar Trees doesn’t fit neatly or narrowly into a specific musical genre. It can best be described as Aural Art: A synthesis of music (Ken Negrete), lyrics “which generally have a Zen Buddhist feel” (Matt Miyahara) & vocals “delicate, ambient, ethereal, warm & sensitive” (Fabiola Sanchez) that produces a visual, poetic effect or aesthetic that works well as a sonic backdrop for art, dance, video and/or film.

Currently in production is Familiar Trees new studio album ‘Gentle Giant’, featuring original compositions as well as one cover song: ‘Just Like Anything’ by Jackson C. Frank. A dropcard pre-release of select songs from the forthcoming album will be given to attendees at a multi-media event called ‘Currents Converge’ at the Long Beach Museum of Art on May 12th. The album ‘Gentle Giant’, in its entirety, is slated to be released August 19th, 2011.

In 2005, Familiar Trees, released an eponymous EP on their boutique label, Time Release Records. Between 2006-2009 they recorded a full-length record, “Inner Course” which served mostly as a developmental exercise and remains to this date, unreleased.
